First we lowered the chassis down on to axel stands, partly because of height clearance in the garage and partly because
we did not like the idea of the lift down off the higher stands once the engine and everything else was installed.
In the background you can see some old wheels from a scrap yard, these were from a (from many ?) Ford sierra(s) |
 |
Using a tow rope through the engine supports and running it underneath just in case, we prepared to lift the engine.
It was a little sad that it had taken so long to get to this stage of the build that some spiders had taken up residence !

| Letting the hoist take the strain. The engine naturally tilted at about 45 degrees with the gearbox downward.
This actually made the engine insertion easier. |
 |
| Nearly there, it had to be wiggled a bit to fit but it did finally go in.
The propshaft had been fitted before the engine was lowered into place and to great relief all round everything lined up.
Perhaps we should not have been so worried, once in place it looked a natural fit, even some space to spare. Hmmm, maybe an V8 or V12 next time ! |
